Aegerter wins back-to-back World Supersport titles with Ten Kate Racing in Indonesia
Dominique Aegerter and Ten Kate Racing have won their second consecutive world championship in the World Supersport class in Indonesia on Saturday. The Swiss rider crossed the finish line in fourth place, which was enough to win his second world title in this class. For Ten Kate Racing, it is already the eleventh world title in the World Supersport class and the twelfth in total.
Aegerter did not let the nerves take over and rode an intelligent race from third place on the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Rival Lorenzo Baldassarri made a mistake early in the race which meant that things could hardly go wrong for the Swiss rider. Nevertheless, Aegerter wanted the maximum result and crossed the line in fourth place, securing his second World Supersport class world title in a row.
With 15 wins and 17 podium finishes in 21 races so far, Aegerter and Ten Kate Racing have dominated the 2022 World Supersport season. The Swiss rider and the Nieuwleusen-based team will do everything possible in the final three races of the season to bring this highly successful partnership to a fine conclusion after which new challenges await.
Leonardo Taccini had a difficult weekend so far in Indonesia and has not yet fully recovered from his wrist injury. However, the Italian managed to score another point for Ten Kate Racing in Race 1 and with that the team championship is getting closer.
Dominique Aegerter: “We did a fantastic job this year, three races before the end we have managed to take our second world championship in a row. It is a dream come true to be world champion again and I want to dedicate it to my family, friends, sponsors, Yamaha and of course the entire Ten Kate Racing team. They have helped me to get to where I am now and I feel ready to start the next chapter. The statistics look great with so many wins, pole positions and fastest laps but alone this wasn’t possible. Together with the team we have achieved greatness and I am very grateful for it.”
Leonardo Taccini: “It was a very hard day. In the race we managed to rescue a point so that wasn’t too bad, especially considering my physical condition at the moment. I want to thank my side of the team because they have helped me a lot. Aegerter behaalt tweede World Supersport titel op rij met Ten Kate Racing in Indonesië
Dominique Aegerter en Ten Kate Racing zijn zaterdag in Indonesië voor de tweede keer op rij wereldkampioen geworden in de World Supersport klasse. De Zwitser passeerde de finish als vierde en dat was genoeg om zijn tweede wereldtitel in deze klasse te behalen. Voor Ten Kate Racing is het al de elfde wereldtitel in de World Supersport klasse en de twaalfde in totaal.
Aegerter liet de spanning niet de overhand nemen en reed vanaf de derde startplaats een bekeken race op het Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Concurrent Lorenzo Baldassarri maakte al vroeg in de race een fout waardoor het voor de Zwitser eigenlijk al niet meer mis kon gaan. Toch wilde Aegerter het maximale resultaat behalen en kwam hij als vierde over de streep waarmee hij zijn tweede wereldtitel in de World Supersport klasse op rij veiligstelde.
Met vijftien overwinningen en zeventien podiumfinishes in 21 races tot dusver hebben Aegerter en Ten Kate Racing het 2022 World Supersport seizoen gedomineerd. De Zwitser en het team uit Nieuwleusen zullen er in de laatste drie races van het seizoen alles aan doen om deze zeer succesvolle samenwerking tot een mooi einde te brengen waarna er nieuwe uitdagingen staan te wachten.
Leonardo Taccini kende tot dusver een lastig weekend in Indonesië en is nog niet volledig hersteld van zin polsblessure. Toch wist de Italiaan er in Race 1 weer een punt uit te slepen voor Ten Kate Racing en komt daarmee ook het teamkampioenschap steeds dichterbij.
Dominique Aegerter: “We hebben het fantastisch gedaan dit jaar, drie races voor het einde hebben we ons tweede wereldkampioenschap op rij behaald. Het is een droom die uitkomt om weer wereldkampioen te zijn en ik wil het opdragen aan mijn familie, vrienden, sponsors, Yamaha en natuurlijk het hele Ten Kate Racing team. Ze hebben me geholpen om te komen waar ik nu ben en ik voel me klaar om aan het volgende hoofdstuk te beginnen. De statistieken zien er geweldig uit met zoveel overwinningen, pole positions en snelste raceronden, maar alleen was dit niet mogelijk. Samen met het team hebben we grootsheid bereikt en daar ben ik erg dankbaar voor.”
Leonardo Taccini: “Het was een hele zware dag. In de race wisten we een punt te behalen dus dat was nog niet zo slecht, zeker gezien mijn fysieke conditie op dit moment. Ik wil mijn kant van het team bedanken want ze hebben me enorm geholpen. Felicitaties aan Dominique en de hele Ten Kate Racing-familie voor het winnen van de wereldtitel, laten we kijken wat we morgen kunnen doen.”
