First and second row for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing in Estoril

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing had a good first day of the Estoril Round in Portugal. Stefano Manzi qualified third for the first World Supersport race of the weekend while Glenn van Straalen secured fifth place on the grid at the Circuito Estoril.

The first day at the Circuito Estoril was mainly characterised by changeable weather conditions. During free practice in the morning it was still quite wet with Stefano Manzi finishing sixth and Glenn van Straalen ending 25th after a big crash. Fortunately, the Dutchman was unhurt and would be able to return to action later in the day.

At the start of that Superpole session it was dry but given the dark clouds over the Portuguese circuit, rain could fall at any moment again. The Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team was very sharp and Stefano Manzi and Glenn van Straalen managed to set good lap times straight away. Not much later it started raining heavily after which the track did not dry for the rest of the session, so the lap times could not be improved anymore.

Manzi rode a fastest time of 1’41.925 and he qualified third for the first World Supersport race at the Circuito Estoril, which will be held Saturday afternoon at 15:15 local time, 16:15 Central European time. Van Straalen clocked a 1’42.454 that will allow him to start from fifth on the grid in Race 1.

Stefano Manzi – P3: “It was a very tricky Friday because the conditions definitely weren’t the best. In the morning I was quite fast in wet conditions and the feeling was good, so I was quite happy with that. In the afternoon we started the Superpole session in dry conditions but after four laps it started raining. Therefore I am quite happy by being on the front row, although I’m not completely satisfied that it’s only a third place. Let’s see what the weather conditions will be like tomorrow, we’ll try our very best to do a good race again.”

Glenn van Straalen – P5: “In free practice in the morning, we were not in a good position as we had missed most of the session due to a crash. The track conditions got better and better during the session which meant the pace went up as well. Qualifying in the afternoon started in dry conditions and the speed was there, then it started raining after about ten minutes. As a result, we weren’t able to do as many laps but we did manage to get a good starting position which I’m very happy with. I think we can have a good race tomorrow.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “It was a good first day in Estoril for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing. Both riders qualified very well and that is obviously very important in the World Supersport class. Stefano and Glenn are ready to race in both wet and dry conditions so we have to wait and see what it is going to be.”

 

 

Eerste en tweede startrij voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing in Estoril

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing heeft een goede eerste dag gehad van de Estoril Round in Portugal. Stefano Manzi kwalificeerde zich als derde voor de eerste World Supersport race van het weekend terwijl Glenn van Straalen de vijfde startplaats bemachtigde op het Circuito Estoril.

De eerste dag op het Circuito Estoril werd voornamelijk gekenmerkt door wisselvallige weersomstandigheden. Tijdens de vrije training in de ochtend was het nog behoorlijk nat waarbij Stefano Manzi als zesde eindigde en Glenn van Straalen als 25e na een flinke crash. Gelukkig was de Nederlander ongedeerd en zou hij later in de Superpole sessie gewoon weer in actie kunnen komen.

Bij aanvang van die Superpole sessie was het droog maar gezien de donkere bewolking boven het Portugese circuit kon er zomaar weer regen vallen. Het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team was goed bij de les en Stefano Manzi en Glenn van Straalen wisten meteen goede rondetijden te rijden. Niet veel later begon het hard te regenen waarna de baan voor de rest van de sessie niet meer opdroogde, en de rondetijden dus niet meer verbeterd konden worden.

Manzi reed een 1’41.925 als snelste tijd en kwalificeerde zich daarmee als derde voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Circuito Estoril die zaterdagmiddag om 15:15 uur lokale tijd, 16:15 uur Nederlandse tijd zal worden verreden. Van Straalen klokte een 1’42.454 waarmee hij in Race 1 vanaf de vijfde plaats op de grid mag vertrekken.

Stefano Manzi – P3: “Het was een erg lastige vrijdag want de omstandigheden waren zeker niet best. In de ochtend was ik vrij snel in natte omstandigheden en het gevoel was goed, dus daar was ik best blij mee. ‘s Middags begonnen we de Superpole-sessie onder droge omstandigheden maar na vier ronden begon het te regenen. Daarom ben ik best blij dat ik op de eerste rij sta, al ben ik niet helemaal tevreden dat het maar een derde plaats is. Laten we afwachten hoe de weersomstandigheden morgen zijn, we zullen ons uiterste best doen om weer een goede race neer te zetten.”

Glenn van Straalen – P5: “In de vrije training in de ochtend stonden we er niet goed bij omdat we het grootste gedeelte van de sessie hadden gemist wegens een crash. De baanomstandigheden werden gedurende de sessie steeds beter waardoor het tempo omhoogging. De kwalificatie in de middag begon onder droge omstandigheden en de snelheid was er wel, waarna het na zo’n tien minuten begon te regenen. We hebben daardoor niet zoveel ronden kunnen rijden maar wel een mooie startpositie kunnen behalen waar ik erg blij mee ben. Ik denk dat we morgen goed mee kunnen komen.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Het was een goede eerste dag in Estoril voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing. Beide coureurs staan heel goed gekwalificeerd en dat is in de World Supersport klasse natuurlijk heel belangrijk. Stefano en Glenn zijn klaar om te racen in zowel natte als droge omstandigheden dus we moeten even afwachten wat het gaat worden.”

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing prepped for penultimate round of 2024 with second visit to Portugal

This weekend, the eleventh round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at the Circuito Estoril. It is the second race weekend of the season to take place in Portugal and it is the first time since 2022 that this circuit is back on the WorldSBK calendar.

The 2024 season is heading towards its end with two more rounds to go, starting this weekend at the Circuito Estoril with the season finale at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto the week after. The Portuguese circuit has entered the calendar as a replacement for the cancelled Hungarian round. The Circuito Estoril is 4.182 kilometres long and has 13 right turns and nine left turns. The combination of a fast last corner before the long straight has often made for exciting races.

With 46 points behind the world championship leader, and a maximum of 100 points left to earn in the final four races of the season, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing still has a chance of winning the world title with Stefano Manzi. It will certainly not be an easy challenge but there is no lack of commitment and motivation from both the Dutch team and the Italian rider to make it happen. Glenn van Straalen will also do everything possible in the last race weekends to end the season well and possibly gain some more places in the championship.

Stefano Manzi: “We continue this exciting part of the season with another race weekend. I have only been in Estoril once before, which was in my first year of World Supersport. I feel confident that we can do a good job this weekend, so let’s see what will happen. I look forward to start working again on Friday.”

Glenn van Straalen: “I am happy that Estoril made it onto the calendar, a good replacement for Hungary as far as I am concerned. It has been a good circuit for me in the past so I am really looking forward to ride there again. It remains to be seen what the weather conditions will be but anyway I’m looking forward to starting the race weekend.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “We face the second ‘double’ of this season, starting this weekend at Estoril. We have good memories of that circuit with good results in the past, the Yamaha YZF-R6 performs well here. Our riders are in very good form, as we have seen in the past races. It will be four important races in this final part of the season that we are looking forward to immensely with the whole team.”

The race weekend at Circuito Estoril begins with free practice on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00h local time, 17:00h Central European Time in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 will start at 15:15h local time (16:15h CET) in the afternoon. The same goes for Sunday with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 at 15:15h (16:15h CET).

 

 

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing klaar voor voorlaatste ronde van 2024 met tweede bezoek aan Portugal

Aankomend weekend wordt de elfde ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op het Circuito Estoril. Het is het tweede raceweekend van het seizoen dat plaatsvindt in Portugal en het is voor het eerst sinds 2022 dat dit circuit weer op de WorldSBK kalender staat.

Het seizoen 2024 loopt richting z’n einde met nog twee raceweekenden te gaan, te beginnen komend weekend op het Circuito Estoril met de seizoensfinale op het Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto er meteen achteraan. Het Portugese circuit is op de kalender gekomen als vervanger van het afgelaste raceweekend in Hongarije. Het Circuito Estoril is 4,182 kilometer lang en telt dertien rechterbochten en negen linkerbochten. De combinatie van een snelle laatste bocht voor het lange rechte stuk heeft vaak voor spannende races gezorgd.

Met 46 punten achterstand op de WK leider, en nog maximaal 100 punten te verdienen in de laatste vier races van het seizoen, heeft Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing met Stefano Manzi nog steeds kans op het behalen van de wereldtitel. Het zal zeker geen makkelijke uitdaging zijn maar aan inzet en motivatie is er zowel bij het Nederlandse team als de Italiaanse rijder geen gebrek. Ook Glenn van Straalen zal er in de laatste raceweekenden alles aan doen om het seizoen goed af te sluiten en mogelijk nog wat plaatsen te winnen in het kampioenschap.

Stefano Manzi: “We vervolgen dit leuke deel van het seizoen met opnieuw een raceweekend. Ik ben nog maar één keer eerder in Estoril geweest, in mijn eerste jaar in de World Supersport. Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat we het dit weekend goed kunnen doen, dus laten we kijken wat er gaat gebeuren. Ik kijk ernaar uit om vrijdag weer aan de slag te gaan.”

Glenn van Straalen: “Ik ben blij dat Estoril uiteindelijk nog op de kalender is gekomen, wat mij betreft een goede vervanging voor Hongarije. In het verleden is dat een goed circuit voor mij geweest dus ik heb er heel veel zin in om daar weer te rijden. Het is nog even afwachten wat de weersomstandigheden zullen zijn maar ik kijk hoe dan ook uit om te beginnen aan het raceweekend.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “We staan voor de tweede ‘dubbel’ van dit seizoen, te beginnen dit weekend in Estoril. We hebben goede herinneringen aan dat circuit met goede resultaten in het verleden, de Yamaha YZF-R6 doet het hier goed. Onze rijders verkeren in zeer goede vorm, zoals we in de afgelopen wedstrijden hebben gezien. Het worden vier belangrijke races in deze finale van het seizoen waar we met het hele team enorm naar uitkijken.”

Het raceweekend op het Circuito Estoril begint met een vrije training op vrijdagochtend waarna ’s middags om 16:00 uur lokale tijd, 17:00 uur Nederlandse tijd de Superpole sessie verreden wordt. Na een warm-up sessie op zaterdagochtend gaat Race 1 ’s middags om 15:15 uur lokale tijd (16:15 uur NL-tijd) van start. Datzelfde geldt voor zondag met een warm-up sessie in de ochtend en Race 2 om 15:15 uur lokale tijd (16:15 uur NL-tijd).

Another podium for Manzi and another solid points’ finish for Van Straalen in Aragón

Stefano Manzi once again finished second in the second World Supersport race at Motorland Aragon on Sunday afternoon. The Italian took full advantage of his pole position and took the lead for the first part of the race before eventually achieving his tenth P2 and fifteenth podium finish of the season. Glenn van Straalen was able to keep up with the leading group at the start and eventually crossed the finish line in tenth place.

After eventually finishing second from eighth on the grid in Race 1, Stefano Manzi was in a better starting position in Race 2 from pole position. With a very good start, he immediately took over the lead and did not relinquish it for the first five laps. Then he was put under a lot of pressure by the riders on the Next Generation machines which made it hard to keep up.

After a nice battle with Jorge Navarro, Manzi eventually crossed the line second again: the tenth time in twenty races and in total his fifteenth podium finish of the season. With 324 points, Manzi is third in the championship where his gap to the leader is 46 points and his gap to second is just five points.

Glenn van Straalen rode a good opening phase of the race and was in touch with the leading group. As the race progressed, he had to let this group go after which the Dutchman eventually crossed the finish line in tenth place. With 140 points behind his name, Van Straalen is eighth in the championship.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “It was another good race. I started from pole position, which was a lot better, and I had a really good start. I tried to escape and I was pretty fast in the first three sectors, but not fast enough in the final sector. Therefore it was impossible to escape. I made only one mistake during the race and that was with the shifter while Yari was ahead of me, so this cost me the chance to fight back. I couldn’t stay with him but after that I had a nice battle with Jorge. For the championship this result is not the best, but in the end it was a good race. We had a good weekend in the end but the only session that wasn’t that good was Superpole. This is not one of my favourite tracks so to finish second twice is quite nice. We’re not out of the title fight yet, so we will keep trying until the end.”

Glenn van Straalen – P10: “The opening phase of the race was pretty good but then I couldn’t stay with the group ahead of me. A few battles made me lose the connection with the front group and then I was riding alone in tenth place. The feeling with the bike was better than yesterday though, and I am happy that we really showed our speed this weekend. I think Estoril is a better circuit for us, that’s where we will try again.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Both riders had a very strong weekend here in Aragon. It is the most difficult circuit of the year for us because of the long straights and the Next Generation bikes. They both gave their all and managed to perform to the maximum. Stefano has finished on the podium twice, has decreased his gap with the championship leader and is very close to second place. You can’t be more than satisfied about that. Glenn had his best qualifying result in dry conditions and also rode two good races with two top ten results. The whole team has performed very well and both riders continue to get the most out of it. I think both riders and the team are very motivated to attack in the last two races which will again be a double with Estoril and Jerez back-to-back. Those are two circuits that suit us well so we will go full attack there.”

The race weekend at Circuito Estoril in Portugal takes place from 11 to 13 October.

 

Opnieuw een podium voor Manzi en opnieuw een solide puntenfinish voor Van Straalen in Aragón

Stefano Manzi is zondagmiddag wederom als tweede geëindigd in de tweede World Supersport race op Motorland Aragón. De Italiaan maakte optimaal gebruik van zijn pole position en reed het eerste gedeelte van de race aan de leiding waarna hij uiteindelijk zijn tiende P2 en vijftiende podiumfinish van het seizoen behaalde. Glenn van Straalen kon in het begin met de kopgroep mee en kwam uiteindelijk als negende over de finish.

Nadat hij in Race 1 vanaf de achtste plaats op de grid uiteindelijk als tweede wist te finishen was de uitgangspositie voor Stefano Manzi in Race 2 beter met pole position. Met een hele goede start nam hij meteen de leiding over en deze gaf hij de eerste vijf ronden niet uit handen. Vervolgens werd hij flink onder druk gezet door de coureurs op de Next Generation machines waardoor het hard werken was om bij te blijven.

Na een mooi gevecht met Jorge Navarro kwam Manzi uiteindelijk opnieuw als tweede over de streep: de tiende keer in twintig races en in totaal zijn vijftiende podiumfinish van het seizoen. Met 324 punten staat Manzi derde in het kampioenschap waarbij zijn achterstand op de leider 46 punten bedraagt en zijn achterstand op de tweede plaats slechts vijf punten.

Glenn van Straalen reed een goede openingsfase en had de aansluiting met de kopgroep. Naarmate de race vorderde moest hij deze groep laten gaan waarna de Nederlander uiteindelijk als tiende over de finish kwam. Met 140 punten achter zijn naam staat Van Straalen achtste in het kampioenschap.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “Het was weer een goede race. Ik startte vanaf pole position, wat een stuk beter was, en ik had echt een goede start. Ik probeerde te ontsnappen en ik was behoorlijk snel in de eerste drie sectoren, maar niet snel genoeg in de laatste sector. Daarom was het onmogelijk om te ontsnappen. Ik maakte maar één fout tijdens de race en dat was met de shifter terwijl Yari voor me reed, dus dat kostte me de kans om terug te vechten. Ik kon niet bij hem blijven maar daarna had ik nog wel een mooi gevecht met Jorge. Voor het kampioenschap is dit niet het beste resultaat maar uiteindelijk was het een goede race. Uiteindelijk hebben we een goed weekend gehad maar de enige sessie die niet zo goed was, was de Superpole. Dit is niet een van mijn favoriete circuits dus twee keer als tweede finishen is heel mooi. We zijn nog niet uit de titelstrijd, dus we blijven het proberen tot het einde.”

Glenn van Straalen – P10: “De openingsfase van de race was best goed maar daarna kon ik de strijd in de groep niet meer aangaan. Door een paar gevechten verloor ik de aansluiting en daarna reed ik alleen op de tiende plaats. Het gevoel met de motor was wel beter dan gisteren en ik ben vooral blij dat we dit weekend echt onze snelheid hebben laten zien. Ik denk dat Estoril een beter circuit voor ons, daar gaan we het opnieuw proberen.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Beide rijders hebben een heel sterk weekend gehad hier in Aragón. Het is voor ons het moeilijkste circuit van het jaar vanwege het lange rechte stuk en de Next Generation motoren. Ze hebben allebei hun huid heel duur verkocht en het maximale weten te presteren. Stefano is twee keer op het podium geëindigd, is ingelopen op de leider in het kampioenschap en staat heel dicht bij de tweede plaats dus dan kun je niet meer dan tevreden zijn. Glenn heeft zijn beste kwalificatie in droge omstandigheden gehad en ook twee goede races gereden met twee top tien resultaten. Het hele team heeft heel goed gepresteerd en beide rijders blijven het maximale eruit halen. Ik denk dat beide coureurs en het team zeer gemotiveerd zijn om in de laatste twee wedstrijden aan te vallen wat opnieuw een dubbel zal zijn met Estoril en Jerez achter elkaar. Dat zijn twee circuits die ons goed liggen dus daar zullen we vol in de aanval gaan.”

Het raceweekend op het Circuito Estoril in Portugal vindt plaats van 11 t/m 13 oktober.

Manzi makes magnificent comeback at Motorland Aragón and takes another P2, Van Straalen finishes 9th

Stefano Manzi finished second in the first World Supersport at Motorland Aragon on Saturday afternoon. The Italian came strongly towards the front from eighth on the grid and set the fastest race lap, which means he will start from pole position in Race 2. Glenn van Straalen started strongly in the first race of the weekend but had to drop back slightly, eventually crossing the finish line in ninth place.

Under sunny conditions, the first World Supersport took place at Motorland Aragón on Saturday afternoon. Starting from fifth on the grid, Glenn van Straalen got away well and managed to keep up with the leading group in the early stages. However, the Dutchman eventually had to drop back a little and crossed the finish line in ninth place. Because he rode the ninth fastest lap time in the race, that will also be his starting position for Race 2 on Sunday afternoon.

Stefano Manzi had quite a challenge from eighth on the grid and on the opening lap he even fell back to P10. The Italian then was able to ride a very good pace and he was the fastest rider on track for several laps in a row. Lap after lap, Manzi managed to move up towards the front and by the ninth lap he was in the leading group.

Manzi had to fight hard and in the end he crossed the finish line in second place, giving him his fourteenth podium finish and ninth P2 of the season. Thanks to his fastest lap time in the race, the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider will be starting from pole position in Race 2.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “In the end it was a good race, because it wasn’t easy from eighth on the grid and I also didn’t have a good start. Although it didn’t happen quickly, it was quite a good comeback. With three laps to go I still had some work to do, so it wasn’t easy for me. I found it quite difficult to overtake today, but the good thing is I rode the fastest lap today which means I can start from pole position tomorrow. We need to see if we can improve the package a bit, but starting from the first row will make it at least a bit easier.”

Glenn van Straalen – P9: “It was a really good race. I just couldn’t keep up with the first group but the speed is definitely there. If we can find something more tonight, then I think we can go for a top five result tomorrow. We’ll work hard on that with the team and then we’ll see if it works out tomorrow.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Stefano rode a very strong race and took another podium finish. Due to his average qualifying result, it was a hard-fought podium and with this second position he still managed to recover his race well. At the time of his second-place race there was already a gap towards the leader, but tomorrow he will start from pole position so then the expectation is that he will be able to fight for the victory. The other side of the pit box is also having a very strong weekend so far. Glenn made an excellent start and is showing that he is a regular among the fastest guys in the World Supersport class. Both riders have all the elements in hand to have another good race tomorrow.”

The second World Supersport race at Motorland Aragón will again start at 15:15h on Sunday afternoon.

 


Manzi maakt magnifieke comeback op Motorland Aragón en pakt weer een P2, Van Straalen eindigt als 9e

Stefano Manzi is zaterdagmiddag als tweede geëindigd in de eerste World Supersport op Motorland Aragón. De Italiaan kwam sterk naar voren vanaf de achtste plaats op de grid en reed de snelste raceronde, hiermee begint hij in Race 2 vanaf pole position. Glenn van Straalen begon sterk aan de eerste race van het weekend maar moest zich iets terug laten zakken, hij kwam uiteindelijk als negende over de finish.

Onder zonnige omstandigheden ging zaterdagmiddag de eerste World Supersport race van start op Motorland Aragón. Vanaf de vijfde plaats op de grid kwam Glenn van Straalen goed weg en wist hij in de beginfase mee te komen met de kopgroep. Uiteindelijk moest de Nederlander toch iets terugzakken en kwam hij als negende over de finish. Vanwege zijn rondetijd in de race zal dat ook zijn startpositie zijn voor Race 2 op zondagmiddag.

Stefano Manzi had een flinke uitdaging vanaf de achtste plaats op de grid en in de openingsronde viel hij zelfs terug naar P10. De Italiaan beschikte vervolgens over een zeer goed tempo waarbij hij meerdere ronden achter elkaar de snelste coureur op de baan was. Ronde na ronde wist Manzi naar voren te komen waarna hij in de negende ronde was aanbeland in de kopgroep.

Hij moest er flink voor vechten maar uiteindelijk kwam Manzi als tweede over de finish waarmee hij zijn veertiende podiumfinish en negende P2 van het seizoen heeft behaald. Dankzij zijn snelste rondetijd in de race zal de Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing coureur in Race 2 vanaf pole position mogen starten.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “Uiteindelijk was het een goede race, want het was niet makkelijk vanaf de achtste plaats op de grid en ik had ook geen goede start. Hoewel het niet zo snel ging, was het een goede comeback. Met nog drie ronden te gaan had ik nog wat werk te verrichten dus het was niet makkelijk voor me. Ik vond het vandaag vrij moeilijk om in te halen maar het goede is dat ik vandaag de snelste ronde heb gereden, wat betekent dat ik morgen vanaf pole position kan starten. We moeten kijken of we het pakket nog wat kunnen verbeteren, maar starten vanaf de eerste rij maakt het in ieder geval iets makkelijker.”

Glenn van Straalen – P9: “Het was een hele goede race. Ik kon net niet meekomen met de eerste groep maar de snelheid zit er zeker in. Als we vanavond nog iets kunnen vinden dan denk ik dat we morgen voor een plaats in de top vijf kunnen gaan. Daar gaan we samen met het team hard aan werken en dan zien we morgen of het lukt.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Stefano heeft een hele sterke race gereden en opnieuw een podiumplaats behaald. Vanwege de matige kwalificatie was het een zwaarbevochten podium en met deze tweede positie heeft hij zijn wedstrijd toch nog goed kunnen herstellen. Op het moment dat hij op de tweede plaats race was er al een gat richting de leider, maar morgen start hij vanaf pole position dus dan is de verwachting dat hij mee kan strijden voor de overwinning. Ook aan de andere kant van de pitbox is het tot dusver een heel sterk weekend. Glenn maakte een uitstekende start en laat zien dat hij vaste waarde is bij de snelste jongens in de World Supersport klasse. Beide rijders hebben morgen alle elementen in de hand om weer een goede race te kunnen rijden.”

Van Straalen achieves best dry qualifying result of the season at Motorland Aragón, Manzi starts from third row

Glenn van Straalen qualified fifth for the first World Supersport race at Motorland Aragón on Friday afternoon. The Dutchman saved his best lap time for the last moment, achieving his best qualifying result of the season in dry conditions. Stefano Manzi suffered a lot of traffic and eventually finished eighth in the Superpole session.

On Friday, the tenth World Supersport round of 2024 began at Motorland Aragon. It was sunny and dry at the Spanish circuit but there was quite a strong wind. Stefano Manzi started the day well with the fastest time in free practice while Glenn van Straalen ended the first session in eighteenth.

In the afternoon, the forty-minute Superpole session was on the programme and Van Straalen ended up qualifying in fifth place. The Dutchman managed to string together his fastest sector times at the last moment and set his own ideal lap time with a 1’53.339, resulting in his best qualifying result of the season on a dry track.

Manzi started the session strongly and was in the top three for a long time before looking to improve his lap time in the closing stages. However, in that moment the Italian was being held up by traffic which prevented him from riding his personal ideal lap time. With a 1’53.415 he qualified in eighth while being less than half a second away from pole position, showing that the gaps in the World Supersport class are very small.

Glenn van Straalen – P5: “We had a good Superpole. During the session we managed to make strides and on the last lap I managed to tie everything together. It was very nice that it worked out and I’m happy with that, it also felt like a very good lap and I rode it alone. We have the pace and we’ll go into tomorrow’s first race with confidence.”

Stefano Manzi – P8: “We started the day well with the fastest lap time in the free practice session. In the Superpole session we were struggling a bit to find the correct setting, and there were also many riders disturbing my lap as they wanted to follow me. It means that I have to start from eighth position tomorrow, which is quite disappointing. Anyway, I will give my all to get a good result.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Glenn rode a great qualifying session. He qualified fifth in dry conditions at Motorland Aragon, which is a very good result. He was building up the session and managed to time his lap perfectly, getting the most out of it. On the other side of the pit box, it was a somewhat disappointing qualifying session after Stefano managed to set the fastest lap time in the morning. The expectation was that we could battle it out for pole position, but something went wrong on the lap where it was supposed to happen. He was hampered by traffic so that ultimate lap was not there in the end. The race pace is there though, and he has to come from the third row of the grid so I expect some spectacle from both of them tomorrow.”

The first World Supersport race Motorland Aragón over fifteen laps will start Saturday afternoon at 15:15.

 

 

Van Straalen behaalt beste kwalificatieresultaat van het seizoen in droge omstandigheden op Motorland Aragón, Manzi start vanaf derde rij

Glenn van Straalen heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als vijfde gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op Motorland Aragón. De Nederlander bewaarde zijn beste rondetijd voor het laatste moment en behaalde daarmee zijn beste kwalificatieresultaat van het seizoen op een droge baan. Stefano Manzi had veel last van verkeer en eindigde uiteindelijk als achtste in de Superpole sessie.

Op vrijdag begon de tiende World Supersportronde van 2024 op Motorland Aragón. Het was zonnig en droog op het Spaanse circuit maar er stond wel een behoorlijk stevige wind. Stefano Manzi begon de dag goed met de snelste tijd in de vrije training terwijl Glenn van Straalen daarin de achttiende tijd reed.

’s Middags stond de veertig minuten durende Superpole sessie op het programma en daarin heeft Van Straalen zich als vijfde weten te kwalificeren. De Nederlander wist op het laatste moment zijn snelste sectortijden aan elkaar te knopen en met een 1’53.339 zijn eigen ideale rondetijd te rijden, wat heeft geresulteerd in zijn beste kwalificatieresultaat van het seizoen op een droge baan.

Manzi begon de sessie sterk en stond langdurig in de top drie waarna hij in de slotfase op zoek was naar een verbetering van zijn rondetijd. Op dat moment ondervond de Italiaan echter veel hinder van verkeer waardoor hij zijn eigen ideale rondetijd niet wist te rijden. Met een 1’53.415 staat hij als achtste gekwalificeerd terwijl hij minder dan een halve seconde verwijderd is van pole position, wat laat zien dat de verschillen in de World Supersport klasse zeer klein zijn.

Glenn van Straalen – P5: “We hebben een goede Superpole gehad. Gedurende de sessie wisten we stappen te maken en in de laatste ronde wist ik alles aan elkaar te knopen. Het was erg mooi dat het lukte en daar ben ik blij mee, het voelde ook als een hele goede ronde en ik reed ‘m alleen. We hebben de snelheid en gaan de eerste race van morgen met vertrouwen tegemoet.”

Stefano Manzi – P8: “We begonnen de dag goed met de snelste rondetijd in de vrije training. In de Superpole-sessie hadden we wat moeite om de juiste afstelling te vinden en er waren ook veel rijders die mijn ronde verstoorden omdat ze me wilden volgen. Dat betekent dat ik morgen vanaf de achtste plaats moet starten, wat behoorlijk teleurstellend is. Hoe dan ook, ik zal alles geven voor een goed resultaat.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Glenn heeft een geweldige kwalificatiesessie gereden. Hij heeft zich in droge omstandigheden op Motorland Aragón als vijfde gekwalificeerd en dat is een heel knap resultaat. Hij bouwde de sessie goed op en wist zijn ronde perfect te timen, waarmee hij het maximale eruit heeft gehaald. Aan de andere kant van de pitbox was het een enigszins teleurstellende kwalificatie nadat Stefano in de ochtend nog de snelste rondetijd wist te rijden. De verwachting was dat we de strijd aan konden gaan voor pole position maar in de ronde waarin het moest gebeuren ging er toch iets fout. Hij had veel last van verkeer waardoor die ultieme ronde niet werd gereden. Het racetempo is er wel en hij moet vanaf de derde startrij komen, dus ik verwacht van beide heren vuurwerk morgen.”

De eerste World Supersport race Motorland Aragón over vijftien ronden gaat zaterdagmiddag om 15:15 uur van start.

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing heads straight to Motorland Aragón for tenth round of 2024

This weekend, the tenth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at Motorland Aragón. The Spanish circuit has been on the WorldSBK calendar since 2011 and has recently been fully resurfaced. With the victory in Cremona still fresh in their minds, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing travelled to Aragon highly motivated to attack for the championship again this weekend.

The 5.077-kilometre Motorland Aragón is has been a permanent fixture on the WorldSBK calendar for years now. The circuit has ten left turns and seven right turns, plus two long straights. With plenty of undulation, the famous ‘corkscrew’ and the distinctive wall, the circuit can rightfully be regarded as a modern classic.

After taking his second win of the season in Race 2 at Cremona, it will be another race weekend for Stefano Manzi to attack for the championship. The Italian is 50 points behind the World Championship leader with three rounds and a total of six races to go. It will therefore not be easy but there is no shortage of commitment and motivation from both Manzi and the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team.

On the part of Glenn van Straalen, it will be a matter of waiting to see how his physical condition will be. The Dutchman was hit by another rider last Sunday, resulting in considerable pain in his right arm. With a few more days of recovery and physiotherapy to go, the situation will hopefully be improved at the start of the race weekend.

Stefano Manzi: “It’s good to have another round this weekend, I cannot wait to get started again on Friday. The feeling is great at the moment, after taking the victory last Sunday. Hopefully we can keep that going and continue to perform like this. It’s not going to be easy at Motorland Aragón as it’s quite a difficult track, but for sure we will try our very best.”

Glenn van Straalen: “I’m very curious to see how the circuit is now with the new asphalt, obviously with MotoGP last month it was quite a weird weekend. I like riding at Motorland Aragón because it is a circuit with undulation and also many different types of corners. My arm is still a bit sore after last Sunday’s race so hopefully I’ll be fully fit again on Friday.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “We are in Aragon for already the tenth race weekend of the year. We had a very good weekend with Stefano in Cremona and we will have to perform in the same way to keep the championship open. It won’t be easy but we are very eager to keep righting. For Glenn it was a tough weekend in Cremona, hopefully he won’t suffer so much from his arm injury. I am very much looking forward to go racing again this weekend.”

The race weekend at Motorland Aragón begins with free practice on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00h in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 will start at 15:15h in the afternoon. The same goes for Sunday with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 at 15:15h.

 

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing gaat meteen door naar Motorland Aragón voor tiende ronde van 2024

Aankomend weekend wordt de tiende ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op Motorland Aragón. Het Spaanse circuit staat al sinds 2011 op de WorldSBK kalender en is onlangs voorzien van een volledig nieuwe asfaltlaag. Met de overwinning in Cremona nog vers in het geheugen is Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing zeer gemotiveerd naar Aragón afgereisd om dit weekend opnieuw de aanval in te zetten voor het kampioenschap.

Het 5,077 kilometer lange Motorland Aragón is inmiddels een vaste waarde op de WorldSBK kalender. Het circuit heeft tien linkerbochten en zeven rechterbochten met daarbij ook twee lange rechte stukken. Met veel hoogteverschil, de bekende ‘corkscrew’ en de kenmerkende muur is het circuit met recht een moderne klassieker.

Na het behalen van zijn tweede overwinning van het seizoen in Race 2 in Cremona zal het voor Stefano Manzi opnieuw een raceweekend worden om de aanval in te gaan voor het kampioenschap. De Italiaan heeft vijftig punten achterstand op de WK leider met nog drie raceweekenden en in totaal zes races te gaan. Het zal daarom niet makkelijk worden maar aan inzet en motivatie is er bij zowel Manzi als het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team geen gebrek.

Aan de kant van Glenn van Straalen zal het even afwachten zijn hoe de fysieke gesteldheid is. De Nederlander werd afgelopen zondag door een andere rijder geraakt, wat resulteerde in flinke pijn aan de rechterarm. Met nog een aantal dagen herstel en fysiotherapie te gaan zal de situatie hopelijk verbeterd zijn bij aanvang van het raceweekend.

Stefano Manzi: “Het is goed om dit weekend weer een race te hebben, ik kan niet wachten om vrijdag weer te beginnen. Het gevoel is geweldig op dit moment na de overwinning van afgelopen zondag. Hopelijk kunnen we dat zo houden en op deze manier blijven presteren. Het zal niet makkelijk worden op Motorland Aragón want het is een lastig circuit, maar we gaan zeker ons best doen.”

Glenn van Straalen: “Ik ben heel benieuw hoe het circuit erbij ligt met het nieuwe asfalt, bij de MotoGP was het vorige maand natuurlijk best wel een raar weekend. Ik rijd graag op Motorland Aragón omdat het een circuit is met hoogteverschil en ook veel verschillende soorten bochten. Ik heb nog wat last van mijn arm na de race van afgelopen zondag dus hopelijk ben ik vrijdag weer volledig fit.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “We zijn in Aragón voor alweer het tiende raceweekend van het jaar. We hebben met Stefano een heel goed weekend gehad in Cremona en zullen op dezelfde manier moeten presteren om het kampioenschap open te houden. Het zal niet makkelijk worden maar we zijn enorm strijdbaar. Voor Glenn was het een lastig weekend in Cremona, hopelijk zal hij niet zoveel last krijgen van zijn armblessure. Ik kijk er ontzettend naar uit om weer te racen dit weekend.”

Het raceweekend op Motorland Aragón begint met een vrije training op vrijdagochtend waarna ’s middags om 16:00 uur de Superpole sessie verreden wordt. Na een warm-up sessie op zaterdagochtend gaat Race 1 ’s middags om 15:15 uur van start. Datzelfde geldt voor zondag met een warm-up sessie in de ochtend en Race 2 om 15:15 uur.

Manzi takes convincing World Supersport victory at home round in Cremona

Stefano Manzi has won the second World Supersport race at the Cremona Circuit on Sunday afternoon. The Italian took over the lead in the second half of the race and then managed to build a comfortable lead. This gave him his second win of the year and he therefore decreased his deficit to the leader in the championship. Glenn van Straalen scored one point by finishing fifteenth.

After finishing second in the Superpole session and second in Race 1, Stefano Manzi and Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing wanted more in Race 2 at the Cremona Circuit. After a good start, the Italian was immediately able to keep up with his title rivals and managed to put the pressure on. It resulted in a mistake from his compatriot after which Manzi took over the lead in the race. Slowly but surely, he managed to create a gap to world championship leader Adrián Huertas after which he eventually crossed the finish line as the dominant winner.

It is the second victory of the season for Manzi and his sixth World Supersport win in the colours of Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing. The Italian has now achieved thirteen podium finishes in eighteen races and a total of 284 points behind his name. This puts him 50 points behind the world championship leader with three rounds to go, in which there is still a maximum of 150 points to be earned.

Glenn van Straalen had a difficult second race and immediately lost several positions in the opening phase. As the race progressed, the Dutchman managed to make up some more places, eventually scoring one point in fifteenth place. With 127 points, Van Straalen is currently eighth in the championship.

Stefano Manzi – P1: “It’s a fantastic feeling to finally take a victory again. It was a different race compared to yesterday because I was closer to the front in the beginning, but I was struggling with rear grip. After some laps I was still close, riding my own pace and feeling confident with the bike. I saw that Yari was pushing very hard but he made a little mistake and crashed. After that point I still had Adrián behind me so I tried to escape. I was able to ride my own pace and managed to slowly but surely build a gap. Finally I managed to take a comfortable win and it feels amazing. Yesterday I was a bit frustrated to not be in the fight for the victory but now we did it, I am very happy about it. The championship isn’t impossible but the last three rounds need to be perfect from our side.”

Glenn van Straalen – P15: “In the end, it was a very difficult weekend. We did have the speed but at the beginning of the race I was hit by another rider, which caused my arm to hurt and as a result I dropped way back. I couldn’t ride my own pace because of that and that made it very difficult. I think we can be better again next week in Aragon.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “We end the weekend in Cremona with a great win by Stefano in Race 2. This was a perfect race from him with a good start and then a very strong pace. He had a flawless weekend and managed to get the most out of the package. Of course we are extremely happy and proud of that, also the team worked hard to make this possible. Unfortunately, on the other side of the pit box it was a weekend to forget, but those happen sometimes as well. We will recover and try again at Motorland Aragón, a circuit where both riders are fast.”

The World Superbike paddock travels straight from Cremona to Spain where next weekend, from 27 to 29 September, the tenth round of the 2024 championship will be held at Motorland Aragón.

 

Manzi behaalt overtuigende World Supersport overwinning tijdens thuisrace in Cremona

De Italiaan nam in de tweede helft van de race de leiding over en wist vervolgens een comfortabele voorsprong op te bouwen. Hij behaalde hiermee zijn tweede overwinning van het jaar en verkleinde zijn achterstand in het kampioenschap. Glenn van Straalen scoorde één punt door als vijftiende te finishen.

Na een tweede plaats in de Superpole sessie en een tweede plaats in Race 1 wilden Stefano Manzi en Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing meer in Race 2 op het Cremona Circuit. Na een goede start kon de Italiaan meteen mee met zijn titelconcurrenten en wist hij de druk er flink op te zetten. Het resulteerde in een fout van zijn landgenoot waarna Manzi de leiding in de wedstrijd overnam. Langzaam maar zeker wist hij een gat naar WK leider Adrián Huertas te slaan waarna hij uiteindelijk als dominante winnaar over de finish kwam.

Het is de tweede overwinning van het seizoen voor Manzi en zijn zesde World Supersport zege in dienst van Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing. De Italiaan heeft nu dertien podiumfinishes in achttien races behaald en in totaal 284 punten achter zijn naam staan. Hiermee bedraagt zijn achterstand op de WK leider vijftig punten met nog drie raceweekenden te gaan, waarin er nog maximaal 150 punten te verdienen zijn.

Glenn van Straalen had een moeizame tweede race en verloor in de openingsfase meteen een aantal posities. Naarmate de race vorderde wist de Nederlander nog wat plaatsen goed te maken waardoor hij uiteindelijk één punt scoorde op de vijftiende plaats. Stefano Manzi – P1: “Het is een fantastisch gevoel om eindelijk weer eens te winnen. Het was een andere race dan gisteren omdat ik in het begin dichter bij de kop zat, maar ik had moeite met grip aan de achterzijde. Na een aantal ronden zat ik er nog steeds vooraan dichtbij, reed ik mijn eigen tempo en had ik vertrouwen in de motor. Ik zag dat Yari heel hard pushte maar hij maakte een klein foutje en kwam ten val. Daarna had ik Adrián nog steeds achter me dus ik probeerde te ontsnappen. Ik kon mijn eigen tempo rijden en bouwde langzaam maar zeker een voorsprong op. Uiteindelijk wist ik een comfortabele overwinning te pakken en dat voelt geweldig. Gisteren was ik een beetje gefrustreerd dat ik niet mee kon strijden voor de overwinning, maar nu is het gelukt en daar ben ik erg blij om. Het kampioenschap is niet onmogelijk, maar de laatste drie raceweekenden moeten perfect zijn van onze kant.”

Glenn van Straalen – P15: “Het was uiteindelijk een heel moeilijk weekend. We hadden de snelheid wel maar in het begin van de race werd ik geraakt door een andere rijder, waardoor ik last van m’n arm kreeg en ook ver terugviel. Ik kon daardoor mijn eigen tempo niet rijden en dat maakte het erg lastig. Ik denk dat we er volgende week in Aragón weer beter bij kunnen staan.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “We sluiten het weekend in Cremona af met een geweldige overwinning van Stefano in Race 2. Dit was een perfecte race van hem met een goede start en daarna een ijzersterk tempo. Hij heeft een foutloos weekend gehad en het maximale uit het pakket weten te halen. Daar zijn we natuurlijk ontzettend blij mee en trots op, ook het team heeft er hard voor gewerkt om dit mogelijk te maken. Helaas was het aan de andere kant van de pitbox een weekend om te vergeten, maar ook die horen erbij. We gaan ons herpakken en zullen het opnieuw proberen op Motorland Aragón, een circuit waar beide rijders snel zijn.”

De World Superbike paddock reist vanuit Cremona meteen door naar Spanje waar komend weekend, van 27 t/m 29 september, de tiende ronde van het 2024 kampioenschap verreden wordt op Motorland Aragón.

Manzi takes another second place in first World Supersport race in Cremona as Van Straalen crashes

Stefano Manzi finished second in the first World Supersport race at the Cremona Circuit in Italy on Saturday afternoon. The Italian managed to maximise his performance on his Yamaha YZF-R6 against the Next Generation machines and secured his 12th podium finish of the season. Glenn van Straalen managed to get to the front in the early stages of the race but crashed out on lap 10.

After Manzi qualified second on Friday afternoon, another tough challenge awaited the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider on Saturday afternoon. After the start, the Italian fell back to third place behind his two title rivals where he would remain until the 14th lap.

It was clear that Manzi was faster than his rival in front of him but on the narrow Cremona Circuit it proved to be very difficult to overtake. He finally managed to do so on the fifteenth lap with a brave overtaking move after which he managed to secure second place. It is the twelfth podium finish in seventeen races for Manzi, including eight second places. Thanks to his lap time in Race 1, Manzi will again start from second place in Race 2.

From fifteenth on the grid, Glenn had already climbed to tenth position after four laps. The Dutchman had the positions ahead of him in sight but crashed out halfway through the race, bringing his race to an early end. Van Straalen still rode the 10th fastest lap time in the race but unfortunately that does not earn him a better starting place for Race 2.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “It was a very good race, even though I struggled a bit more than I expected. The temperature was the highest it had been all weekend, and until the race the bike felt good. Then, during the race, I felt some chatter in the first few laps but fortunately it felt better as the race went on. I was able to close the gap to Yari and but had to do many laps behind him, as I was searching for a place to pass him. In the end I created my own overtaking spot and managed to take the second place off him. I am not happy with the result because I was not in the fight for the victory, but it’s still a good result for us.”

Glenn van Straalen – DNF: “I felt a lot better in the warm-up this morning and we knew our pace for the race was better than where we qualified. I had gained some positions in the early stages of the race but unfortunately it came to an early end because of a crash. That’s very unfortunate and for Race 2 too, we unfortunately failed to improve our starting position. So tomorrow I have to start from fifteenth again but I expect to be able to get towards the front like I did today.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Stefano performed to his maximum again today in Cremona. After a very strong qualifying session, in which he finished second, he once again showed that he is by far the fastest Supersport 600 rider. We simply came up short on the factory Ducati which does seem to have a bit more speed than the others. We will obviously leave no stone unturned tonight to see if we can still find something so that we can fight again tomorrow. The differences are small and something can always happen during a race, so we’ll again go on the attack tomorrow.

For Glenn, it was unfortunately a short race due to a crash. He came from a difficult starting position on a narrow track which unfortunately prevented him from setting a lap time that would have allowed him to start from the first nine places in Race 2. So we will have to start the race from the same starting position tomorrow with him, and we will try to take home a few points so that we can come back stronger at Aragon next week.”

The second 20-lap World Supersport race at the Cremona Circuit will start again at 15:15 on Sunday afternoon.

 

 

Manzi pakt opnieuw een tweede plaats in eerste World Supersport race in Cremona, Van Straalen crasht

Stefano Manzi is zaterdagmiddag als tweede geëindigd in de eerste World Supersport race op het Cremona Circuit in Italië. De Italiaan wist maximaal te presteren op zijn Yamaha YZF-R6 tegen de Next Generation machines en behaalde alweer zijn twaalfde podiumfinish van het seizoen. Glenn van Straalen wist in de beginfase van de race naar voren te komen maar ging in de tiende ronde onderuit.

Nadat Manzi zich op vrijdagmiddag als tweede had gekwalificeerd stond de Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing coureur op zaterdagmiddag opnieuw een zware uitdaging te wachten. Na de start viel de Italiaan terug naar de derde plaats achter zijn twee titelconcurrenten waar hij tot en met de veertiende ronde zou blijven rijden.

Het was duidelijk dat Manzi sneller was dan zijn concurrent voor hem maar op het smalle Cremona Circuit bleek het zeer lastig te zijn om in te halen. Dat lukte hem uiteindelijk in de vijftiende ronde met een knappe inhaalactie waarna hij de tweede plaats wist veilig te stellen. Het is de twaalfde podiumfinish in zeventien races voor Manzi, waarvan acht tweede plaatsen. Dankzij zijn rondetijd in Race 1 zal Manzi in Race 2 opnieuw vanaf de tweede plaats starten.

Vanaf de vijftiende plaats op de grid was Glenn na vier ronden al opgeklommen naar de tiende positie. De Nederlander had zicht op de posities voor hem maar ging halverwege de race onderuit waardoor zijn race vroegtijdig ten einde kwam. Van Straalen reed nog de tiende snelste rondetijd in de race maar dat levert hem helaas geen betere startplaats op voor Race 2.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “Het was een erg goede race, ook al had ik wat meer moeite dan ik had verwacht. De temperatuur was de hoogste van het hele weekend en tot aan de race voelde de motor goed aan. Tijdens de race voelde ik wat chatter in de eerste paar ronden, maar gelukkig voelde het beter naarmate de race vorderde. Ik kon het gat naar Yari dichten, maar moest veel ronden achter hem rijden omdat ik op zoek was naar een plek om hem te passeren. Uiteindelijk creëerde ik mijn eigen inhaalplek en wist ik de tweede plaats van hem af te pakken. Ik ben niet blij met het resultaat omdat ik niet in de strijd was voor de overwinning, maar het is nog steeds een goed resultaat voor ons.”

Glenn van Straalen – DNF: “Ik voelde me vanochtend in de warm up een stuk beter en we wisten dat ons tempo voor de race beter was dan waar we gekwalificeerd stonden. Ik had in de beginfase van de race een mooie opmars gemaakt maar helaas kwam deze tot een vroeg einde vanwege een crash. Dat is erg jammer en ook voor Race 2 hebben we onze startpositie helaas niet weten te verbeteren. Ik moet morgen dus weer vanaf de vijftiende plaats starten maar ik verwacht dat ik net als vandaag weer naar voren kan komen.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Stefano heeft vandaag weer maximaal gepresteerd in Cremona. Na een ijzersterke kwalificatie waarin hij als tweede eindigde heeft hij wederom laten zien dat hij veruit de snelste Supersport 600 coureur is. We komen simpelweg tekort op de fabrieks Ducati die toch iets meer snelheid lijkt te beschikken dan de anderen. We gaan vanavond uiteraard iedere steen opnieuw omdraaien om te kijken of we nog iets kunnen vinden zodat we morgen opnieuw het gevecht aan kunnen gaan. De verschillen zijn klein en er kan altijd wat gebeuren tijdens een race, dus we zetten morgen wederom de aanval in.

Voor Glenn was het helaas een korte race vanwege een crash. Hij kwam vanuit een moeilijke startpositie op een smalle baan waardoor hij helaas geen rondetijd kon rijden die hem op de eerste negen plaatsen had laten starten in Race 2. We moeten de race morgen met hem dus opnieuw aanvangen vanaf dezelfde startpositie en zullen proberen een paar punten mee naar huis te nemen, zodat we ons volgende week in Aragón kunnen herpakken.”

De tweede World Supersport race over twintig ronden op het Cremona Circuit gaat zondagmiddag opnieuw om 15:15 uur van start.

Manzi qualifies second for first World Supersport race in Cremona, Van Straalen fifteenth on the grid

Stefano Manzi has qualified in second position for the first World Supersport race at the Cremona Circuit on Friday afternoon. Teammate Glenn van Straalen had a more difficult day, finishing 15th in the Superpole session. Despite that, both Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing riders showed that they have good race pace.

On Friday, the first day of the Italian World Superbike round was completed at the Cremona Circuit. After rain during the night the track was not completely dry on Friday morning, making conditions far from ideal. In free practice, Stefano Manzi rode the fifth fastest time while Glenn van Straalen finished in 18th place after a small crash.

In the afternoon, the Superpole session was on the programme and fortunately conditions had clearly improved. Manzi was very strong and managed to continually improve his lap time. With a 1’31.776 he qualified second, giving the Italian a good starting position for the first race on Saturday afternoon.

Van Straalen managed to ride a consistent and good pace during the Superpole session but lacked an explosive lap. With a 1’32.603 as fastest lap time, just 1.1 seconds away from pole position, the Dutchman will have to start Saturday afternoon’s first race of the weekend from fifteenth on the grid.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “It was quite a good day. This morning, the track wasn’t completely dry but we could still ride with slicks. We found out that we had to change our setting because the conditions are very different compared to the test earlier this year. In Superpole I was able to improve my lap time significantly and I am happy about that. It’s not pole position but it was a good session so we are ready for tomorrow.”

Glenn van Straalen – P15: “It was a tricky start this morning with the track not yet completely dry. I had a small crash which meant we lost some track time when the conditions were better. In the Superpole session I managed to set a good pace, which is positive for race distance, but that one fast lap was not coming out. With fifteenth place on the grid, we are therefore making it difficult for ourselves again in Race 1 but we will do our best tomorrow anyway.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “The first day in Cremona is done. Stefano rode a very impressive qualifying session and was immediately fast from free practice in the morning. He was able to continue that pace in the afternoon and managed to further improve his lap time in each run, with that he was also a lot faster than during the test. His race pace is also excellent so he is ready to fight for the top positions tomorrow and Sunday.

Glenn struggled a bit today after a small crash in free practice. As a result you fall behind, including tyre usage in qualifying. It meant that in the Superpole session he couldn’t get a very strong lap time as a result. We will have to start the first race tomorrow from a challenging position, but we have done that before this year and with this he can still command a good starting position for Sunday’s race. I am confident on both sides of the pit box that we can have two good races this weekend.”

After a 10-minute warm-up session in the morning, the first World Supersport race over 20 laps at the Cremona Circuit will start at 15:15 on Saturday afternoon.

 


Manzi kwalificeert zich als tweede voor eerste World Supersport race in Cremona, Van Straalen vijftiende op de grid

Stefano Manzi heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als tweede gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Cremona Circuit. Teamgenoot Glenn van Straalen kende een moeizamere dag en eindigde als vijftiende in de Superpole sessie. Ondanks dat hebben beide Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing coureurs laten zien dat ze over een goed racetempo beschikken.

Op vrijdag werd de eerste dag van de Italiaanse World Superbike ronde op het Cremona Circuit afgewerkt. Na regenval gedurende de nacht was de baan op vrijdagochtend nog niet volledig droog waardoor de omstandigheden verre van ideaal waren. In de vrije training reed Stefano Manzi de vijfde tijd terwijl Glenn van Straalen als achttiende eindigde na een valpartij.

’s Middags stond de Superpole sessie op het programma en gelukkig waren de omstandigheden duidelijk verbeterd. Manzi was zeer sterk en wist zijn rondetijd steeds verder aan te scherpen. Met een 1’31.776 kwalificeerde hij zich als tweede waardoor de Italiaan een goede uitgangspositie heeft voor de eerste race op zaterdagmiddag.

Van Straalen wist een constant en goed tempo te rijden tijdens de Superpole sessie maar het ontbrak hem aan een explosieve ronde. Met een 1’32.603 als snelste rondetijd, slechts 1,1 seconde verwijderd van pole position, zal de Nederlander zaterdagmiddag vanaf de vijftiende plaats op de grid aan de eerste race van het weekend moeten beginnen.

Stefano Manzi – P2: “Het was best een goede dag. Vanochtend was de baan niet helemaal droog, maar we konden nog steeds met slicks rijden. We kwamen erachter dat we onze afstelling moesten veranderen omdat de omstandigheden heel anders zijn dan tijdens de test eerder dit jaar. In de Superpole kon ik mijn rondetijd aanzienlijk verbeteren en daar ben ik blij om. Het is geen poleposition, maar het was een goede sessie dus we zijn klaar voor morgen.”

Glenn van Straalen – P15: “Het was een lastig begin vanochtend met de baan die nog niet volledig droog was. Ik had een kleine crash waardoor we wat rijtijd verloren op het moment dat de baanomstandigheden het beste waren. In de Superpole sessie wist ik een goed tempo te rijden, wat positief is voor de raceafstand, maar die ene snelle ronde zat er net niet in. Met de vijftiende plaats op de grid maken we het onszelf daardoor weer lastig in Race 1 maar we gaan morgen hoe dan ook ons uiterste best doen.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “De eerste dag in Cremona zit er alweer op. Stefano heeft een ijzersterke kwalificatie gereden en was vanaf de vrije training in de ochtend snel. Hij kon dat tempo in de middag doorzetten en wist zijn rondetijd in iedere run verder aan te scherpen, daarmee was hij ook een stuk sneller dan tijdens de test. Ook zijn racetempo is uitstekend dus hij is klaar om morgen en zondag te vechten voor de topposities.

Glenn had het wat moeilijker vandaag na een onschuldige valpartij in de vrije training. Daardoor loop je vervolgens achter de feiten aan, ook wat betreft bandengebruik in de kwalificatie. Het betekende dat hij in de Superpole sessie hierdoor niet aan een hele sterke rondetijd kon komen. We zullen de eerste race morgen vanuit een uitdagende plek moeten beginnen, maar dat hebben we dit jaar al eerder gedaan en hiermee kan hij nog steeds een goede startpositie afdwingen voor de race op zondag. Ik heb er aan beide kanten van de pitbox vertrouwen in dat we dit weekend twee goede races kunnen rijden.”

Na een tien minuten durende warm up sessie in de ochtend gaat de eerste World Supersport race over twintig ronden op het Cremona Circuit zaterdagmiddag om 15:15 uur van start.

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing returns to Italy for first race weekend at Cremona Circuit

This weekend, the ninth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at the Cremona Circuit in Italy. The circuit, located in northern Italy, is on the World Superbike calendar for the first time and will play an important role in the course of the WorldSSP championship.

For the second time in 2024, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing will travel to Italy to race. This time the venue will be the Cremona Circuit, a recently renovated circuit that is on the World Championship calendar for the first time. The circuit is only 3.7 kilometres long and has six right turns and seven left turns, in addition to a long straight. Most of these corners are fairly slow, so for most of the lap the riders are in second gear.

After another positive race weekend at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, where Stefano Manzi and Glenn van Straalen both managed to finish on the podium, the goal for this weekend will be to maintain this form. The Cremona Circuit will be a new experience for many but Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing already has some information following to a two-day test earlier this year.

Stefano Manzi: “Here we are again, ahead of another race weekend. We will have a lot of races in a row now so that is nice, starting with a back-to-back race weekend. We finished the weekend in Magny-Cours very strongly so I feel confident to be strong again this weekend. I was quite happy with the test we had at Cremona earlier this year, so I cannot wait to ride again. Like always, we will give everything we have so let’s see where we end up.”

Glenn van Straalen: “I am curious to see how this weekend will go at a track that is new to everyone. The test we had there a few months ago went well so I hope we can move towards the top five again. I am confident that together with the team I will be able to do that so I am looking forward to racing in Cremona.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “We have arrived at the final part of the season with two back-to-back race weekends in a row. The momentum is currently on our side with Stefano and Glenn both in excellent form. We tested at Cremona earlier this year so I expect us to get off to a good start straight away on Friday. It is a new circuit on the WorldSBK calendar and I think it will be very interesting because it is a small and compact track. I won’t be surprised if we will see results.”

The race weekend at the Cremona Circuit begins with free practice on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00h in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 will start at 15:15h in the afternoon. The same goes for Sunday with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 at 15:15h.

 

 

Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing keert terug naar Italië voor eerste raceweekend op het Cremona Circuit

Aankomend weekend wordt de negende ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op het Cremona Circuit in Italië. Het circuit, gelegen in het noorden van Itailë, staat voor het eerst op de World Superbike kalender en zal een belangrijke rol spelen in het vervolg van het WorldSSP kampioenschap.

Voor de tweede keer in 2024 reist Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing af naar Italië om er te racen. Ditmaal is het Cremona Circuit de plaats van handeling, een onlangs gerenoveerd circuit dat voor het eerst op de WK-kalender staat. Het circuit is slechts 3,7 kilometer lang en telt naast een lang recht stuk ook zes rechterbochten en zeven linkerbochten. De meeste van deze bochten zijn redelijk langzaam, voor het grootste gedeelte van de ronde wordt er dan ook in de tweede versnelling gereden.

Na opnieuw een positief raceweekend op het Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, waar Stefano Manzi en Glenn van Straalen allebei op het podium wisten te eindigen, zal het doel voor aankomend weekend zijn om deze vorm vast te houden. Het Cremona Circuit zal voor velen een nieuwe ervaring zijn maar Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing beschikt al over enige informatie vanwege een tweedaagse test eerder dit jaar.

Stefano Manzi: “We zijn weer aanbeland bij een nieuw raceweekend. We hebben nu veel races achter elkaar en we beginnen met een back-to-back raceweekend, dat is altijd mooi. We hebben het weekend in Magny-Cours erg sterk afgesloten, dus ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat we dit weekend weer sterk zullen zijn. Ik was erg tevreden over de test die we eerder dit jaar in Cremona hadden, dus ik kan niet wachten om weer te rijden. Zoals altijd zullen we alles geven wat we hebben, dus laten we zien waar we eindigen.”

Glenn van Straalen: “Ik ben benieuwd hoe het komend weekend zal gaan op een circuit dat voor iedereen nieuw is. De test die we daar een aantal maanden geleden hadden verliep goed dus ik hoop dat we weer richting de top vijf kunnen. Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat me dat samen met het team gaat lukken dus ik kijk er naar uit om te racen in Cremona.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “We zijn aanbeland bij het laatste gedeelte van het seizoen met twee back-to-back raceweekenden achter elkaar. Het momentum zit momenteel aan onze kant met Stefano en Glenn die beiden uitstekend in vorm zijn. We hebben eerder dit jaar getest in Cremona dus ik verwacht dat we vrijdag meteen goed uit de startblokken kunnen komen. Het is een nieuw circuit op de WorldSBK kalender en ik denk dat het heel interessant gaat worden want het is een klein en compact circuit. Het zal me niets verbazen als we verrassende resultaten gaan zien.”

Het raceweekend op het Cremona Circuit begint met een vrije training op vrijdagochtend waarna ’s middags om 16:00 uur de Superpole sessie verreden wordt. Na een warm-up sessie op zaterdagochtend gaat Race 1 ’s middags om 15:15 uur van start. Datzelfde geldt voor zondag met een warm-up sessie in de ochtend en Race 2 om 15:15 uur.
