Stefano Manzi qualified in third place in the World Supersport class at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Friday afternoon. In very sunny and warm conditions, the Italian finished third in the Superpole session at his home circuit. Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammate Glenn van Straalen qualified in 14th position.
After a seven-week break, the World Supersport season resumed on Friday at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. It was quite warm at the Italian circuit with plenty of sunshine and temperatures well above 25°C. The morning free practice session was completed by Stefano Manzi with the second fastest lap time while teammate Glenn van Straalen set the tenth fastest lap time.
In the afternoon it was already time for qualifying and as the asphalt temperature had risen considerably compared to the morning, the grip level had also dropped considerably. With a 1’37.489, Manzi managed to qualify in third for his home race, which he will contest with a special livery. Its unveiling is on Friday evening in the paddock of the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Van Straalen finished 14th in the Superpole session which leaves him with quite a challenge in Race 1 on Saturday afternoon.
Stefano Manzi – P3: “It was a good Friday for me. I started well in the morning and also had a good session in the afternoon. Unfortunately I didn’t get the position that I wanted because I wasn’t able to push to the maximum in Superpole, I also made some mistakes. We need to analyse this with the team and try to make me faster. Montella and Huertas are very fast so it will be a big challenge to follow them around this track. Tonight we will reveal our special livery so maybe this can help us to go a bit faster.”
Glenn van Straalen – P14: “It was quite a tough day today. In the Superpole session I started well but unfortunately in my third run I couldn’t make that step that was needed. In terms of race rhythm we are in good shape so we will have to come forward tomorrow in the race, hopefully things will look different then from today.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Stefano qualified on the front row of the grid today but was mainly focused on race pace. That is excellent but unfortunately we did not manage to squeeze out the ultimate qualifying lap, even though a place on the front row is solid to start the weekend. Given his pace, he is ready to fight for victory tomorrow. It will be an exciting battle as around three to four riders are very fast.
Glenn had a reasonably okay Friday, after Assen we do see an upward trend. Unfortunately, a small crash prevented him from being further forward in qualifying. Despite that, I still expect him to get a good result tomorrow so overall we can be satisfied with this first day.”
The first 18-lap World Supersport race at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will start at 15:15 on Saturday afternoon.
Manzi kwalificeert zich op eerste startrij voor thuisrace in Misano, Van Straalen veertiende
Stefano Manzi heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als derde gekwalificeerd in de World Supersport klasse op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Onder zeer zonnige en warme omstandigheden eindigde de Italiaan als derde in de Superpole sessie op zijn thuiscircuit, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teamgenoot Glenn van Straalen kwalificeerde zich als veertiende.
Na een onderbreking van zeven weken werd het World Supersport seizoen vrijdag weer hervat op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Het was behoorlijk warm op het Italiaanse circuit met veel zonneschijn en temperaturen ruim boven de 25°C. De vrije training in de ochtend werd door Stefano Manzi afgesloten met de tweede rondetijd terwijl teamgenoot Glenn van Straalen daarin de tiende rondetijd reed.
’s Middags was het al meteen tijd voor de kwalificatie en aangezien de asfalttemperatuur flink was gestegen vergeleken met de ochtend was het gripniveau ook aanzienlijk gedaald. Met een 1’37.489 wist Manzi zich als derde te kwalificeren voor zijn thuisrace die hij zal gaan rijden met een speciale kleurstelling. De onthulling daarvan is op vrijdagavond in de paddock van het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Van Straalen eindigde als veertiende in de Superpole sessie waardoor hem een behoorlijke uitdaging staat te wachten in Race 1 op zaterdagmiddag.
Stefano Manzi – P3: “Het was een goede vrijdag voor mij. Ik begon goed in de ochtend en had ook een goede sessie in de middag. Helaas eindigde ik niet op de positie die ik wilde omdat ik in de Superpole niet maximaal kon pushen en ook wat foutjes maakte. We moeten dit met het team analyseren en proberen om me sneller te maken. Montella en Huertas zijn erg snel dus het wordt een grote uitdaging om ze op dit circuit te volgen. Vanavond onthullen we onze speciale livery, dus misschien kan dit ons helpen om wat sneller te gaan.”
Glenn van Straalen – P14: “Het was best een lastige dag vandaag. In de Superpole sessie begon ik goed maar helaas kon ik in mijn derde run niet die stap maken die nodig was. Qua raceritme zitten we er goed bij dus zullen we morgen in de race naar voren moeten komen, hopelijk ziet het er dan anders uit dan nu.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Stefano heeft zich vandaag op de eerste startrij gekwalificeerd maar was voornamelijk gefocust op het racetempo. Dat is uitstekend maar helaas hebben we niet de ultieme kwalificatieronde eruit weten te persen, ook al is een plaats op de eerste rij prima om het weekend mee te beginnen. Gezien zijn tempo is hij klaar om morgen voor de overwinning te vechten. Het zal een spannende strijd worden want zo’n drie à vier rijders zijn heel snel.
Glenn had een redelijke vrijdag, na Assen zien we wel een stijgende lijn. Helaas kon hij door een kleine valpartij niet verder naar voren staan in de kwalificatie. Ondanks dat verwacht ik nog steeds dat hij morgen een goed resultaat kan behalen dus in het algemeen kunnen we tevreden zijn met deze eerste dag.”
De eerste World Supersport race over 18 ronden op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli gaat zaterdagmiddag om 15:15 uur van start.
