This weekend marks the fourth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship, taking place at the Cremona Circuit in Italy. It is only the second time the World Superbike Championship visits this Northern Italian track, which made its calendar debut last September. Stefano Manzi will look to extend his lead in the world championship on home soil, while Yuki Okamoto will race for the first time this year on a circuit he has previously ridden at.
Following a hectic home race at the TT Circuit Assen, the next challenge awaits Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing this coming weekend. After a very strong start to the season with five second-place finishes and one victory for Stefano Manzi, the team leads the World Supersport Championship with their Italian rider. The goal for the weekend is to further increase the 14-point lead. Last year, Manzi finished second in Race 1 and claimed victory in Race 2.
Yuki Okamoto has faced significant challenges in recent weeks, showing a steep learning curve. The Japanese rider has adapted well to unfamiliar environments and has proven to learn new circuits quickly. At the Cremona Circuit, Okamoto first got acquainted with the Yamaha YZF-R9 and the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team last November, meaning fewer surprises await him this weekend.
Stefano Manzi:
“I’m very happy and excited to have another race weekend ahead of us. Cremona is a good track for us, because last year we went there for the first time and it went quite well. We finished second in Race 1 and managed to win Race 2, so our memories of Cremona are good. I’m excited to continue the work with our new bike, because I think we are not showing the full potential at the moment. I want to work with the team to make sure we are in the best shape possible with the new bike, even though we are already performing well. I think there is still room for improvement so I cannot wait to get started on Friday morning.”Yuki Okamoto:
“After the race weekend in Assen I went back to Japan and spent some quality time at home. Cremona is up next and will be an important race for us. I think I will be able to ride well from the beginning because we already tested there last year in November. “We are all set to compete in Cremona this weekend. The team is in good shape and we already tested here last November with the R9. That means we already have some data on this circuit with the new machine. The race weekend at the Cremona Circuit kicks off on Friday morning with a free practice session, followed by the Superpole session starting at 16:00h on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning begins with a warm-up session, after which Race 1 starts at 15:15h and will run for 20 laps. On Sunday the same schedule applies, with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 starting at 15:15h in the afternoon.
Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing wil huidige vorm doorzetten met Manzi en Okamoto in Cremona
Dit weekend wordt de vierde ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op het Cremona Circuit in Italië. Het is de tweede keer dat het World Superbike kampioenschap op het Noord-Italiaanse circuit in actie komt, nadat het circuit afgelopen september op de kalender debuteerde. Stefano Manzi zal op eigen bodem zijn voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap uit willen breiden terwijl Yuki Okamoto dit jaar voor het eerst op een circuit zal racen waar hij al eerder heeft gereden.
Na een hectische thuisrace op het TT Circuit Assen staat aankomend weekend de volgende uitdaging te wachten voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing. Na een zeer sterke start van het seizoen met vijf tweede plaatsen en één overwinning voor Stefano Manzi staat het team aan de leiding van het World Supersport kampioenschap met hun Italiaanse rijder. De doelstelling van het weekend is dan ook om de voorsprong van veertien punten verder uit te breiden. Vorig jaar finishte Manzi als tweede in Race 1 en won hij Race 2.
Yuki Okamoto stond de afgelopen weken zeer grote uitdaging te wachten waarbij hij een steile leercurve heeft laten zien. De Japanner heeft zich goed weten aan te passen aan de voor hem nieuwe omgevingen en laten zien dat hij de circuits snel leert. Op het Cremona Circuit maakte Okamoto afgelopen november voor het eerst kennis met de Yamaha YZF-R9 en het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team waardoor er hem dit weekend minder grote verrassingen te wachten staan.
Stefano Manzi:
“Ik ben erg blij en enthousiast dat we weer een raceweekend voor de boeg hebben. Cremona is een goed circuit voor ons, want vorig jaar waren we daar voor het eerst en dat ging best goed. We werden tweede in Race 1 en wisten Race 2 te winnen, dus we hebben goede herinneringen aan Cremona. Ik kijk ernaar uit om het werk met onze nieuwe motor voort te zetten, want ik denk dat we op dit moment nog niet het volledige potentieel laten zien. Ik wil samen met het team werken om ervoor te zorgen dat we in de best mogelijke vorm zijn met de nieuwe motor, ook al presteren we nu al goed. Ik denk dat er nog ruimte is voor verbetering, dus ik kan niet wachten om vrijdagochtend te beginnen.”Yuki Okamoto:
“Na het raceweekend in Assen ben ik teruggekeerd naar Japan en heb ik wat ‘quality time’ thuis doorgebracht. Cremona is de volgende race en wordt een belangrijke voor ons. Ik denk dat ik vanaf het begin goed zal kunnen rijden, omdat we daar vorig jaar in november al getest hebben. Ik kijk ernaar uit om weer bij het team aan te sluiten en samen verder te werken.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“We zijn weer helemaal klaar om dit weekend aan te treden in Cremona. Het team is in goede vorm en we hebben hier afgelopen november al getest met de R9. Daardoor beschikken we al over de nodige informatie op dit circuit met de nieuwe machine. Stefano en Yuki zijn eveneens in goede vorm en we zijn allemaal goed voorbereid, dus we kijken ernaar uit om het seizoen na het drukke weekend in Assen weer op te pakken.”
Het raceweekend op het Cremona Circuit begint op vrijdagochtend met een vrije training waarna de Superpole sessie vrijdagmiddag om 16:00 uur van start gaat. Zaterdagochtend is er eerst nog een warm-up sessie waarna Race 1 over 20 ronden ’s middags om 15:15 uur begint. Op zondag geldt hetzelfde tijdschema als op zaterdag met ‘s ochtends een warm up sessie en Race 2 ‘s middags om 15:15 uur.
