The second race day at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was a difficult one for the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team. Home rider Stefano Manzi could not get involved in the battle for the podium and finished fourth, Glenn van Straalen lost a lot of ground in the opening lap and eventually crossed the finish line in 14th place.
A warm and sun-drenched Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli hosted the second World Supersport race of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. Stefano Manzi was fourth on the grid but despite a good start he dropped back to fifth position on the opening lap. In the second half of the race the Italian managed to move up to fourth and prepared for a final attack. However, three laps before the end of the race the red flag was waved, preventing him from achieving a double podium finish in front of his home fans. With 114 points, Manzi is third in the championship, 22 points behind the leader.
Glenn van Straalen made a good start from 14th on the grid but after contact with another rider he fell far back. This made it a catch-up race for the Dutchman in which he eventually managed to climb to fourteenth position. With a total of 54 points, Van Straalen is ninth in the championship.
Stefano Manzi – P4: “It was a very difficult race and I didn’t have the right feeling with the bike to push to the maximum. It was going to be a tough race anyway but unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough to get a second podium here in Misano. We will work hard to be better in the coming races, next week we have a test in Cremona to start with that. Despite everything, I did enjoy my home race, which always remains special.”
Glenn van Straalen – P14: “In terms of lap times it was a good race but not in terms of position on the track. This was mainly due to the first few corners where I was in the melee and lost some places. After that I was able to set good lap times so that gives a positive feeling for the next races. We will first test in Cremona and then Donington Park is next on the calendar, which I am really looking forward to. I hope I can show my real speed then.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “For Stefano, this was not the result we had hoped for. We were not fast enough and we will have to work hard. Glenn had a difficult start to the race but rode a very good pace in the second half. He came forward strongly and made a decent step compared to yesterday. We now need to get him further forward on the grid so that he can take advantage of his good race pace. It was not the weekend we had hoped for and we will not give up. We will be testing in Cremona on Wednesday and Thursday and will also work there to find more speed for the next race weekend.”
The next round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will take place on the weekend of 12-14 July at Donington Park in England.
Lastige zondag in Misano voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing
De tweede racedag op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was een moeizame voor het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team. Thuisrijder Stefano Manzi kon zich niet mengen in de strijd voor het podium en eindigde als vierde, Glenn van Straalen verloor in de openingsronde veel terrein en kwam uiteindelijk als veertiende over de finish.
Op een warm en zonovergoten Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli werd zondagmiddag de tweede World Supersport race van het weekend verreden. Stefano Manzi stond vierde op de grid maar ondanks een goede start viel hij in de openingsronde terug naar de vijfde positie. In de tweede helft van de race wist de Italiaan op te schuiven naar de vierde plaats en bereidde hij zich voor op een slotoffensief, echter werd drie ronden voor het einde de rode vlag gezwaaid waardoor hij geen dubbele podiumfinish kon behalen voor zijn eigen fans. Met 114 punten staat Manzi derde in het kampioenschap, 22 punten achter de leider.
Glenn van Straalen maakte een goede start vanaf de veertiende plaats op de grid maar na contact met een andere rijder viel hij ver terug. Hierdoor werd het een inhaalrace voor de Nederlander waarin hij uiteindelijk wist op te klimmen naar de veertiende positie. Met een totaal van 54 punten staat Van Straalen negende in het kampioenschap.
Stefano Manzi – P4: “Het was een hele lastige race en ik had niet het juiste gevoel met de motor om maximaal te pushen. Het zou sowieso al een lastige race worden maar helaas was ik niet snel genoeg om een tweede podium hier in Misano te behalen. We gaan hard aan het werk om er in de komende races beter bij te staan, komende week hebben we een test in Cremona om daarmee te beginnen. Ondanks alles heb ik wel genoten van mijn thuisrace, dat blijft toch altijd speciaal.”
Glenn van Straalen – P14: “Qua rondetijden was het een goede race maar wat betreft de positie op de baan niet. Dit kwam voornamelijk door de eerste paar bochten waar ik in het gedrang zat en wat plaatsen verloor. Daarna kon ik goede rondetijden rijden dus dat geeft een positief gevoel voor de volgende races. We gaan nu eerst nog testen in Cremona en daarna staat Donington Park op de kalender waar ik erg naar uit kijk. Ik hoop dat ik dan mijn echte snelheid kan laten zien.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Voor Stefano was dit niet het resultaat waarop we gehoopt hadden. We waren niet snel genoeg en we zullen hard aan het werk moeten. Glenn had een moeilijke beginfase van de race maar reed in de tweede helft een heel goed tempo. Hij kwam sterk naar voren en heeft ten opzichte van gisteren een behoorlijke stap gemaakt. Het is nu noodzaak dat we hem verder naar voren krijgen op de grid zodat hij kan profiteren van zijn goede racetempo. Het was niet het weekend waarop we gehoopt hadden en zullen niet opgeven. We gaan woensdag en donderdag testen in Cremona en zullen ook daar aan het werk gaan om meer snelheid te vinden voor het volgende raceweekend.”
Het volgende raceweekend van het FIM Supersport World Championship vindt plaats in het weekend van 12 t/m 14 juli op Donington Park in Engeland.
