Stefano Manzi finished third in the first World Supersport race of the weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Saturday afternoon. The Italian rode a very strong race, securing his fifth podium of the season from seven races. Teammate Glenn van Straalen managed to cross the finish line in tenth place from 14th on the grid.
After qualifying third behind Yari Montella and Adrián Huertas on Friday afternoon, Manzi would keep these two Next Generation Supersport riders in sight for a long time on Saturday as well. The Italian started the race strongly and managed to keep up with the pace in the early stages. Later it became clear that third place would be the maximum result allowing Manzi to bring his machine to the podium for the fifth time this season.
After a difficult qualifying session, Van Straalen had to start from fourteenth position. Thanks to a good opening lap, he soon moved up to eleventh place before taking over tenth position on lap six. This the Dutchman held until the finish, scoring six valuable points for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing.
Stefano Manzi – P3: “It was a solid race but for sure we cannot be very happy with this third place, because my two main title contenders finished ahead of me. So far it has not been an easy weekend. After qualifying I thought it would be hard to follow them but unfortunately today I wasn’t able to. I am not happy about the gap I had to them. We need to see where we can improve ourselves but I am not sure if it will be enough to close the gap completely. As always the team and I will do everything we can.”
Glenn van Straalen – P10: “My start was good but the first few laps were messy. After that, I struggled to get into the rhythm in terms of lap times which I was able to do earlier in the weekend. That was a bit disappointing but hopefully tomorrow I can be a bit further forward and be in a good group because we need the points badly.”
Kervin Bos – Ten Kate Racing team manager: “Stefano finished on the podium at his home race in Misano with the special livery but unfortunately we fell came up a little short compared to our competitors. We will leave no stones unturned tonight to see if we can give him something extra. It won’t be easy but hopefully it will be enough to enable him to battle Huertas and Montella. Glenn achieved a neat tenth position after a difficult Friday with two crashes, he has come back well from that. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”
Race 2 for the World Supersport class at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will start at 15:15 on Sunday afternoon.

Stefano Manzi is zaterdagmiddag als derde geëindigd in de eerste World Supersport race van het weekend op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. De Italiaan reed een zeer sterke race en behaalde daarmee alweer zijn vijfde podium van het seizoen uit zeven races. Teamgenoot Glenn van Straalen wist vanaf de veertiende plaats op de grid als tiende over de finish te komen.
Nadat Manzi zich vrijdagmiddag als derde kwalificeerde achter Yari Montella en Adrián Huertas zou hij deze twee Next Generation Supersport coureurs ook zaterdag lange tijd in het zicht houden. De Italiaan begon sterk aan de race en wist het tempo in de beginfase te volgen, later werd echter duidelijk dat een derde plaats het maximale resultaat zou zijn waardoor Manzi zijn machine voor de vijfde keer dit seizoen naar het podium mocht brengen.
Na een moeizame kwalificatie moest Van Straalen vanaf de veertiende positie starten. Dankzij een goede openingsronde schoof hij al gauw op naar de elfde plaats waarna hij in de zesde ronde de tiende positie overnam. Deze hield de Nederlander vast tot aan de finish waardoor hij zes waardevolle punten voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing heeft gescoord.
Stefano Manzi – P3: “Het was een solide race maar we kunnen zeker niet blij zijn met deze derde plaats, mijn twee belangrijkste titelkandidaten eindigden voor me. Tot nu toe is het geen gemakkelijk weekend geweest. Na de kwalificatie dacht ik dat het moeilijk zou worden om ze te volgen maar helaas lukte dat vandaag niet. Ik ben niet blij met mijn achterstand op hen. We moeten kijken waar we onszelf kunnen verbeteren, maar ik weet niet zeker of het genoeg zal zijn om het gat helemaal te dichten. Zoals altijd zullen het team en ik alles doen wat we kunnen.”
Glenn van Straalen – P10: “Mijn start was goed maar de eerste paar ronden waren rommelig. Ik had daarna moeite om qua rondetijden in het ritme te komen wat ik eerder in het weekend wel kon doen. Dat was erg jammer maar hopelijk kan ik morgen iets verder naar voren zitten en in een goede groep zitten want we hebben de punten hard nodig.”
Kervin Bos – Ten Kate Racing teammanager: “Stefano is op het podium geëindigd tijdens zijn thuisrace in Misano met de speciale kleurstelling maar helaas kwamen we wat tekort op de concurrentie. We zullen vanavond alle stenen om moeten draaien om te kijken of we hem nog iets extra’s kunnen geven. Het zal niet makkelijk zijn maar hopelijk zal het genoeg zijn om hem in staat te stellen de strijd aan te gaan met Huertas en Montella. Glenn heeft een keurige tiende positie behaald na een lastige vrijdag met twee valpartijen, daar is hij goed van teruggekomen. Ik kijk uit naar de race van morgen.”
Race 2 voor de World Supersport klasse op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli gaat zondagmiddag om 15:15 uur van start.
